It's been nearly two years since I've done any homebrewing. Recently, Lachlan, Hamish, Tobie and I decided to get back into it. With four of us, it should help reduce the costs and workload and allow us to brew more frequently.

On November 16th we decided to see if we could remember how to make beer. Our only goal was to produce three drinkable beers. We'd worry about improving next time.

We planned to do three batches, An English style pale ale (Brewing Classic Styles), Dr Smurto's Golden Ale and a fresh wort kit US IPA. Lachlan and I dropped into Grain and Grape and collected our pre ordered grain bills. They were out of Amarillo hops for the Golden Ale so we substituted with Mosaic.

The brew day was long but straightforward with no significant mistakes along the way.

We had some hot days during the fermentation so there are some slight banana flavours in the English pale ale.

The beers are now in kegs, chilled, carbonated and ready to drink. I don't think we'd win any awards but all in all, it was a success.
